May 3 Updates
Hello! I am still here. How is everyone?
I took a few weeks away from the blog. It hasn’t been the most eventful few weeks. I’ve been chilling. Erika is on a three week business trip that she’s about to start week three of, so I’ve been holding down the fort solo. It’s just me and the fur bbs.
I finished bollywood and I started taking classes at a nearby fitness place called GYM. It’s an acronym for ‘get yourself moving’. IDK.
I’ve never done CrossFit and I don’t really know that much about CrossFit so I’m just spitballing when I say this, but it has CrossFit vibes. It’s a small space. My first class was like 15 people. Many of the people seem to have some familiarity with each other. People are very friendly.
People are also in shape. Out of my class of ~15 people I was easily the most wiped out by the workout of anyone there. The workout was very intense. My instructor during my first class was Chris, the 54 year old woman who also runs the business. I like Chris. She divides her workouts the same way I used to divide my lifting schedule - back and biceps is one day, chest and triceps is a second day, legs is a day, and there’s all-body days. There’s a lot of different offshoot classes from there, but that’s my basic understanding of the schedule so far. Workouts are offered daily and you can either go in the morning chunk of offered classes or the ‘after work’ 5-7pm sort of chunk. Classes are one hour.
After the class I talked to Chris about my rotator cuff injury two years ago from lifting. She seemed all too familiar with my story.
One reflection I’ve had is that there are plenty of times in my life where I would have scoffed at the idea of working out at this establishment. I used to have a very much just clock in and clock out at the weight room and be disciplined sort of mentality around weight lifting. It was intertwined with the extreme sort of frugality I often practiced. Now though? I am older. I’ve endured an exercise related injury with my rotator cuff. I have more financial security and ability to afford such a luxury than ever (thank you universe). I’ve been missing the comradery of the weight room back at the Fitness Factory (I love you Fitness Factory). I’m also just kind of more fun nowadays? I might really enjoy and benefit from GYM at this moment in my life.
Now, ideas come and go on the blog. Regular readers know this. I am not the most consistent person. Maybe this will be the only post to ever talk about GYM. But who knows maybe this is going to be my new thing. I can only go to one class a week right now due to the crazy soreness that follows the workout due to how out of shape I am. I am signed up for a class next week.
Also, becoming intrigued by GYM I think cements that I’m going to pause my solo dance life for the time being. When Erika gets back in town I think dance might make a comeback as a couples activity.
Post Frequency
One thing I wanted to mention is that my post frequency feels like it’s in the process of dropping a bit. I kept up a once a week schedule for these first few months of the year, but I have not been producing posts at that rate anymore. Slowing down my post flow will hopefully free up time to do more of other things. I think I need to narrow my focus a little bit. With that said, I’m not sure what my plan for the future post frequency is, so we’re in unknown territory here at the blog. I will not totally abandon you though don’t worry. I just need time to do work so I can show you all cool stuff I worked on.
I feel the same way about posting mini game dev updates on YouTube. I deleted the mini update playlist. I think it was a good experiment, but I think I need to let updates bake for longer before exposing them to the light of day. I have chalked this up to learning about my own creative process. Not everything sticks.
Anyway I think that’s all I have for now. I’ll be back. Have a great week everyone! I believe in you!
