Weekly Deep Dives

Hello all! Welcome back to this blog where I talk about things I’m trying to do and not doing but occasionally am doing. How are you?

I’m writing this up Monday night. Post Bollywood dance class. Dance class was great - still loving it!

I think there’s six deep dives I need to get into with myself right now (and all of you are invited to stay and join). Our topics today will be:

  1. Pot

  2. Food

  3. This blog

  4. Game Dev

  5. Speedrunning

  6. Exercise

Talkin’ Pot

Okay let’s do a recap on what’s happening in the Robbie using pot world. This recent era of pot use dates back to a couple weeks ago, on April 1. April 1 was a Wednesday, and on that day, I bought pot for the first time since Christmas day 2025. We took about a quarter of the year off to hang out and be sober.

Speaking of quarters, on that day, April 1, I bought a quarter ounce of pot. For people not into pot culture, 1/8 of one ounce of pot is kind of your standard ‘chunk’ of pot. 2/8 would be two of those, or one quarter ounce of pot. A quarter ounce is what I bought on April 1. In grams, it’s like 7.1 grams.

For the years and years that I was addicted to pot, I always had pot in the house. Running out was just something I didn’t do, for my own safety. I had accepted life as a pot addict, and always having pot was part of that lifestyle.

Now though, we’re trying to moderate to see if there’s another relationship with pot that I can piece together, since I really enjoy having pot be a small part of my life. Having pot in the house is kind of like having junk food in the house. It’s a lot easier to not eat junk food if you do not store junk food in your house. So, how did the experience of having a quarter of an ounce go?

Well, I mentioned that I bought it on a Wednesday. I used pot Wednesday - Sunday, so that was ‘weekend 1’. It was a long, thanksgiving-style weekend, but just for clarity, okay, that was weekend one. Next was a work week - a Monday - Friday. During this week, I did not use pot Monday - Thursday. I then did use pot Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which was weekend two. Today is Monday, and today all the pot has been thrown out. So a quarter of an ounce of pot easily lasted me two weekends. First of all, the first weekend was really long since it started on Wednesday, and second of all, I threw out a good 2 of the 7 grams of the quarter this morning.

So first new pot rule: if you go to the pot store, you can only buy 1/8oz of pot at a time.

Existing pot rule: you can only smoke pot Friday - Sunday

Pot rule that hasn’t fully formed yet: I am not sure how often I’m allowed to buy pot on a Friday yet. It seems like the options realistic to me right now are either every weekend, or every other weekend. For now, I’m going to allow this to stay at every weekend, but I will include the caveat that it’s under scrutiny. I don’t think the way I lived over the past two weekends is sustainable as an every weekend lifestyle, but also maybe it’s okay to expect the ferocity of the ‘party atmosphere’ of the past two weekends to dissipate as pot becomes more regularly seen.

Goal for this week: Buy 1/8oz of pot on Friday for use Friday or Saturday or Sunday.

Food & Weight Loss

Okay so pot has been going fairly well I’d say. But how has food been going in the presence of pot? The two have some relation to one another.

When it comes to food, I’m typically talking about eating to lose weight, since I said that in 2026 I wanted to do a weight loss goal thing. Let’s start there. This is our chart covering Weeks 1 - 11:

You can see on our chart that we’re trending up a little bit. This is okay. Part of why I wanted to do all these different deep dives in one post today is the fact that all of these pieces that we’re tweaking and sliding around all affect each other. Since re-introducing pot two weekends ago, our weight is tracking upward.

I don’t necessarily think we need to change any of the rules just yet. I think smoking pot for the first time in such a long time was due to shake some of our foundations, but let’s keep doing what we’re doing for another week and see where we are a week from now.

Food Rule 1: You can buy junk food one night per week for a big cheat meal (sample weekly purchase: a quart of ice cream)

Food Rule 2: You can order out with Erika once a week for dinner

Food Rule 3: All of the non-ordering out days need to be pretty big deficit days. Shooting for a one meal per day intermittent fasting schedule.

Food is a big part of my life outside of these rules, too. I make dinner for Erika every day, regardless of what my food plans are (unless we’re ordering out together). I also completely avoid processed food other than during that one junk food order that happens per week.

Food Rule 4: You’re in charge of all food buying, prepping and making

This Blog?

Let’s talk about this blog for a little bit. If there’s one overarching thing I feel happening to me right now, it’s a feeling of having more things that I want to do than I practically seem to have time to actually do. During the weeks that I’ve been having this overarching feeling, these blog posts have been getting longer and longer and longer.

I can see why this is happening. This blog is essentially a public journal of sorts. There’s some topics that are only covered in my real journal, but this blog is a pretty free-wheeling and wide-ranging coverage of most things. As I struggle to find time to do things the way I want to do them, I come here to brainstorm ideas and try to keep improving my life. That’s kind of the vibe.

I think for now, I should try to force myself back to the practice of only writing on this blog during the weekly post. All of the inter-week updates I’m going to start saving for the next week’s post. This should help us save a little time during the week and hopefully direct it towards lacking areas.

Blog Rule: You can only write one blog post per week - no interweek updates. Interweek updates are sweet, but we’re trying to free up some time to spend on other things.

Exercise?

Exercise barely gets talked about here anymore. It has been a pretty consistent theme throughout my life that working out really helps my mental health. Now that the warmer weather is here…am I going to start running again? It seems like the answer should probably be yes?

One exercise thing I’m doing right now is the dance classes. I think a reasonable first goal is to go to dance class once a week, and to go for one run or long exercise walk (without Podo) per week.

Exercise Rule 1: Do dance class

Exercise Rule 2: Go for one run per week

Game Dev

Game dev…where is game dev at. Here’s some recent figures:

So, the last two weeks on here are the two weeks where pot got re-introduced. During week one, similar to weight loss, there’s a big reduction in the progress we had been seeing. Week two, there’s still a reduction, but we’re starting to fight our way back.

Even prior to pot getting re-introduced, we were struggling to get both game dev and speedrunning going at the same time. Today starts the next week on this chart. As long as I can keep moving the productivity up, I’ll feel okay about all of this.

Game Dev Rule 1: Must do game dev in the morning Tuesday - Friday (9am approximate wakeup time)

Game Dev Goal for this week: At least 7 hours worked, getting us back to where we were before re-introducing pot

Speedrunning

Speedrunning! We have not gone live and speedrun since March 7th. It’s been over a month.

With that said, we’ve got other moving pieces. The goal here can remain low Let’s set the goal at 3 hours this week. I feel like we still need to get our feet under us in a few other areas before I expect speedrunning to take off again.

With that said, know that I do miss it. I am looking forward to my return to speedrunning, but the path there isn’t totally clear to me just yet.

Overall

All in all I think we’re making some progress with life lately. I had a LOT more fun with my life having pot available as a recreational resource the past two weeks. I also saw the drop in productivity I suffered in other areas as a result of this rekindled pot romance, and am trying to be proactive about it. Week two saw a lesser drop in productivity. Week three since re-introducing pot is what is ahead of us for this week. I think if we can return to the pre-pot form we were on (losing weight weekly, ~7 hours of game dev, dabbling in small amounts of speedrunning) we’ll be well on our way to keeping this rebuild going.

So here’s to a great work week for all of us, and a restorative weekend to follow that. I believe in all of you so go forth and make yourselves proud. Talk soon.
