Reset

Reset

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. As always, it is wonderful to see you!

Every once in a while, it’s time for a reset. Generally, for me, a reset means getting back to basics. The basics for me are fasting, mindfulness, exercising, and avoiding instant gratification.

Ever since quitting pot, it feels like I have been on the instant-gratification train. I started eating poorly. I have been giving-in to distraction. I have not been practicing meditation or mindfulness.

Of course, life has still been lived. Accomplishments were made, setbacks were endured, happiness was experienced and sadness was carried. Life goes on whether you are paying careful attention to its passing or not.

Realizing you need to get back into your foundational practices - the basics - is a gift. Invariably, shock that you’ve been away from the basics for so long soon follows. Regret that you’ve been lost in the sauce of life for so long follows that. Renewed hope for the future follows that. There is an optimism embedded in remembering how simple a life well lived actually is.

In a sense, mindfulness is all you need. If you’re present and living mindfully, you’ll stop eating junk food. Your health will improve. You will move toward the good and away from the evil. This is simply because the real you wants to be healthy and happy. You want to be disciplined. You don’t really enjoy distractions and instant gratification. The most enjoyable things are being around people you love, learning things that interest you, being outside, and living authentically.

You can’t leave the world we’re in. We’re all here. This week, I vow to pay attention to it. I vow to get back to basics. To live mindfully, in the real world. You are free to join me if you’d like.

Have a great week. I believe that if we slow down and stay present, we can do anything and everything. I’ll talk to you next week.
