Mr. Nutz 6

Hello everyone! We’re back back back again. Thank you so much for joining me - let me get you up to speed on the latest!

the tldr

This week varied from the average week in that Erika had one of her college besties staying over our apartment for the weekend. Our friend Grace just left earlier this morning, concluding a fantastic weekend hanging out with her and others from my partner’s college friend network. We’ll tell some stories of that hangout shortly, but it’s good background info before we look at the stats:

random updates

I am in the mood to start this week with the random updates. As mentioned, we had a guest staying with us this weekend, so I did a lot more socializing than I normally would.

On Friday we ordered takeout, watched Say Yes to the Dress, and made perlers. FYI, if you have HBO Max, all 24 seasons of Say Yes are available to watch there. Amazing!

Neither Maggie nor Grace had made a perler since childhood, so I served as a the coach rather than making my own. We picked out patterns, transferred them into a grid layout, created color palettes, beaded and ironed. In the end, they turned out great!

Maggie made this cow from Stardew Valley (with Podo lurking in the background of course):

Grace’s was a bit more ambitious, this Kirby sporting a weaponized parasol from Kirby Super Star:

I will be posting pictures of both over in the Bead Museum section of this website which, to date, has been an empty page. I’d like to start keeping track of all these beautiful perlers, so it will be an empty page no longer.

Saturday consisted some more arts and crafts, this time in the form of tie dye! We tie dyed many pieces on our front porch, many of which came out amazing. Here are some new additions to my wardrobe:

On Sunday, we drove out of the city to a nearby suburb, where another college friend of Erika’s lives, with her partner and two children, ages 5 and 2. Erika brought a lasagna over and we had dinner and cake while hanging out with the kiddos.

The older of the kids, Julian, is currently in an era where he is obsessed with Scooby Doo. He is on a mission to check out every direct-to-video Scooby Doo movie ever made from the library, some of which are hilarious. It’s clear that they were pumping these things out at one point - there’s around 50 of them. It’s hard to pick just one, but I think this one was the most outrageous:

Julian had already seen this one by the time I came over. His review: “it was pretty good.”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - the next random update is about this book that I just finished reading. It’s the fourth Hunger Games book, released as a prequel after the core trilogy was concluded. The president of the highly oppressive Panem during the original trilogy was Coriolanus Snow, and this book tells you what his life as a youth growing up in the Capitol was like.

So, it’s the origin story of a villain. You get to see some history of the Hunger Games, which is sort of cool. For instance, you see the origin of the concept of sponsors being able to send gifts into the arena, and of betting on the victor to make the whole thing more entertaining. All in all though, it’s kind of an underwhelming experience. I give it 3 stars out of 5. “It was pretty good.”

Call on Me - I heard this version for the first time this week. Whenever I think I’ve heard every old lost recording of Call on Me, I eventually find another one. This one might be my new favorite.

Game development

I’ve got some new advancements to the movement system. Check this video out:

Double jumps and working doors. One step at a time y’all. This project is getting somewhere. I can see myself getting better and better at the programming end of things. If i keep going, eventually this will be a game. Let’s check in again next week.

speedrunning

We were coming off of a 0 week last week, but bounced back nicely. At just a shade under 12 hours, I did the most speedrunning work this week that I’ve done since restarting this weekly check-in.

Part of that was due to having guests over for the weekend. With more people floating around the apartment than usual all weekend, I found it easier to engage with speedrunning than with game development. Speedrunning is easier to dip in and out of, and I can talk to people floating around my periphery easier while doing speedrunning than game dev.

We are getting close to going live with Mr. Nutz. A whopping six weeks into dedicated Mr. Nutz practice has me absolutely ready to go live, set a new record, and move on with life. I’m mentally fatigued, and thoroughly bored of this monotonous work. There are no shortcuts though, and we haven’t accomplished anything yet. If it were easy to set a new record, everyone would do it. Here’s to a productive week seven.

weight loss - under 220

Another half pound loss dips me under the 220 mark for the first time since restarting the weekly check-in. I can already predict that posting a seventh consecutive week of weight loss will be difficult next week, because the social weekend had a lot of social eating included in it. So, while I posted a loss for the week, that loss was mostly generated before the weekend. My four 5ks were Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I was on pace to lose more like two pounds after those four days, which buoyed the weekend festivities.

I have no issue with social eating once in a while and that causing a setback - but I’m just telling it like it is. We’ll see though. If I have an air-tight week a seventh straight week posting a loss might be doable. I’ll see you then, and we’ll see what happened!

Have a FANTASTIC week everyone! You can do it! We’ll talk soon <3.
