Mr. Nutz 2
Hello all! Welcome back - it’s great to see you.
It occurs to me as I sit to write this that the video game I am speedrunning is an adequate way to mark the era we’re in. I want to start doing a weekly check-in, but anchoring the check-in to the speedrunning project seems like a good way to not end up in a “weekly check in #162” scenario where it seems like a laundry list of identical blog posts.
game dev - 2 hours
Game Dev had a quiet week. I started coding the more-complex state machine solution, but overall had trouble getting myself to sit still with the project. In my notes, I try to remind the future-me that working on this project is actually really fun once you get going with it. Nonetheless, I only mustered two hours.
For next week, I want to focus on working on game development right when I wake up. I would like to try and spend the first two hours of each day working on game development. It feels like once I start procrastinating the start of game dev, there’s no natural end to that procrastination. Let’s see what next week holds.
speedrunning - 7 hours
I had a good week of speedrunning. Seven hours isn’t bad - 10 hours is what I am shooting for in a week, but I am happy that I worked on Mr. Nutz for seven. I am through learning 9 of the 28 levels, so there’s still a ways to go before I am live on Twitch again. The 9 levels that I have learned I’ve learned very thoroughly though. I know them inside and out. I can perform the first 9 levels roughly as well as the world record. I just need to keep at it.
weight loss - down 0.4 pounds, down 0.9 through two weeks
It’s a small loss, but I’ll take it! I started the week with a seven day average weight of 221.6, and ended it at 221.2. I was very active during the week - my phone says that I traversed 46 miles over the course of the week. That’s around 6.5 miles either run or walked a day. I’ve been running 5ks a lot of days, taking it slowly to try and keep my knees healthy. The robust 46 miles doesn’t even include a fun day of roller skating Erika and I had yesterday! Next time, I will take some roller skating photos. With this being our first time out this year, I was dead tired at the end of the skating and didn’t remember to take any. I am not very good at roller skating, so it is always humbling when we go and 5 year-olds routinely zoom past me. I had a great time though!
With all of this activity, you’d think I would have lost more weight. Being active isn’t my issue though - eating junk food is. I’ll be pushing to lower my junk food consumption a bit more next week and we’ll see where I end up. So far so good though. If every week were like these past two weeks, I’d eventually be back to a healthy weight. I am okay with slow progress.
That’s it for me this week! Thank you for reading - I will catch you next week.
